Why does VPN keep disconnecting on my phone?

This article explains why your MysteriumVPN might be disconnecting and how to fix it

Updated today

VPN disconnections can be frustrating. Here are the most common reasons and how you can try to solve them.

Irresponsible Account sharing

MysteriumVPN allows 6 devices at the same time. If someone else using your account connects from another device, it can kick you off automatically.

Someone might have also clicked Disconnect All Devices—a button in the app that disconnects everyone. That's why we don't allow account sharing - it might cause these exact issues.

Battery Savings

Phone makers add battery-saving features that sometimes stop VPN apps from working in the background.

Solution

For iOS:

Turn off Low Power Mode by going to Settings > Battery and toggling it off, or by tapping the battery icon in Control Center.

For Android 6+ (older devices):

Settings > Battery & power saving > Battery usage > Ignore optimizations > Turn ON for MysteriumVPN

For Android 7+ (newer devices):

Settings > Apps > MysteriumVPN > Battery > Optimize battery usage > All apps > Find MysteriumVPN > Turn OFF

For Android 8+:

Settings > Apps & Notifications > MysteriumVPN > Make sure "Background restrictions" is OFF

If nothing works:

  • Completely reinstall the VPN application

  • Try resetting the device network settings

  • Turn off Doze mode completely -> Settings > Developer options > Turn off Doze (Android only)

  • Look for your phone maker's special battery saver and disable it (Android only)

  • Check all battery settings and allow background running for our app

If you are still having issues, try the generic fix - it works for most phones:

Settings > Battery > Ignore battery optimizations > Turn ON for MysteriumVPN
