When using a VPN, your data passes through a server, adding an extra step that slightly reduces speed (up to a 30% drop due to encryption).
Other factors like server distance, user load, and your internet speed can also affect performance.
If your speed drops more than expected, try the troubleshooting steps below.
Switch Servers or Refresh Your IP
Choosing a server closer to your location can improve performance by reducing latency. You can also switch to a different region to avoid network congestion, or use the “Refresh IP” button to get a new IP that might perform better.
Connect to a High-Speed pool instead of a Residential one
Try connecting to our High-Speed IP pool instead of residential IPs. These data center-based IPs are optimized for faster performance, which can help boost your VPN speed significantly.
Disable Third-Party Apps
Firewalls, antivirus programs, or P2P apps like torrent clients can slow your VPN by scanning packets or consuming bandwidth. Temporarily disable them to see if your speed improves.
Restart Your Device
Devices can slow down over time due to memory issues or background apps. A quick reboot closes unnecessary processes and may boost your VPN speed.
Set Custom DNS on Your Device
Using custom DNS servers like OpenDNS can enhance speed and browsing. Set your device to:
DNS1: 208.67.222.222
DNS2: 208.67.220.220
Reset Network Settings
Resetting your device’s network settings clears cached DNS, routing, and Wi-Fi data, which can resolve VPN slowdowns caused by outdated configurations.
Update Your Device
Check for firmware updates on your device. New updates often include fixes that can improve connection quality and VPN performance.
Restart Your Modem/Router
Modems and routers can lag due to memory leaks or overuse. Restarting them can improve your overall connection speed, including your VPN.
Switch Between Wi-Fi and Mobile Data
Test your VPN on both Wi-Fi and mobile data to see if the issue is with your ISP. This can help identify if your network is causing the slowdown.
Use a Wired Connection
Wi-Fi can slow down your VPN because it shares bandwidth with other devices, increasing latency. A wired connection offers higher speeds and better stability—use it if possible.
Try a Different Device
Older devices like early Android/iOS models may struggle with VPN encryption, slowing your connection. Please switch to a device with a stronger processor for better performance.
